October 28th & 29th
(a) Pierre and Joanne test walked a new race this past Saturday in Stittsville – La Course des Patriotes. It was hard to resist a race taking place partly along the Trans Canada Trail. This is the 2nd year for this race, which is organized by a local school, and they got pretty good participation. The good: beautiful morning, easy race kit pickup, lovely course, great police support. The bad: confusion at the start and finish lines. The 10k was supposed to start first, followed by the 5k about 15 minutes later. Unfortunately that didn’t happen (long story!) and a coach made another rookie mistake which is … don’t assume anything! By the time Pierre and I realized the only people who hadn’t left were the 2k’ers, we were scrambling to catch up to people! Results by the clock (official) from Running Goat Timing shown below, and we know that the clock had been running for at least a minute before Pierre and Joanne started.
Official Results (292 participants)
Joanne 34:32 (188 overall)
Pierre 42:25 (253 overall)
(b) Sunday morning was a cool and wet one this year for the Rattle Me Bones race. Sharon again has single-handedly kept the Bytowntradition alive for this great race. The venue was new this year at the Aviation Museum, with 3 events (including a half marathon, 10k, 5k) plus the ever cute kids races. I must say, it was very well organized – all events started right on time – although we would not recommend the half marathon course. The rain really started coming down just before the start, but it didn’t deter Sharon who zipped along significantly faster than her last race there in September – in fact, she was observed passing many people over the last kilometre. After the race, Sharon was approached and thanked by a super hero mom and her batgirl daughter for being a beacon. Well done and thanks to Sharon!
